Obituary of Betty L. Pierce

Betty L. Pierce, 88, of Coffeyville passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at her home. She was born July 9, 1926 at Fort Scott, KS to Thomas and Myrtle (Yarm) Stewart. Betty grew up in Bell Town, KS and attended school in Fort Scott. On May 1, 1949, she married Charles Pierce at Fort Scott. Following their marriage they lived in Fort Scott until moving to Coffeyville in 1963, later moving to St. Paul, KS, then returning to Coffeyville. Her husband preceded her in death in 2000. Betty was employed for many years at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center as a CNA, and a ward clerk. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Holy Name Altar Society, and Faith and Light. Betty enjoyed volunteering her time with church projects and loved spending time with her family. Survivors include three daughters, Charlene Crane of Coffeyville, Betty Lou Glaesman of Wichita, and Cathy L. Potocnik of Altamont; four sons, Bill L. Courtney of Loudin, TN, George A. Pierce of Salt Lake City, UT, Merle L. Pierce of Coffeyville, and Ernest L. Pierce of Illinois; two step-daughters, Mary Ann Applegate of Independence, and JoAnn Carlson of California; fourteen grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. A Rosary Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 15, 2015, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Chad Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to Holy Name Catholic Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
