Marjorie E. McCarter, 99, of Coffeyville passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Windsor Place. She was born October 28, 1915, at Osawatomie, KS, to Carl and Margaret "Ty" (Horton) Masters. When she was young her family moved to Santa Rita, NM, where they lived until moving to Dearing where Marjorie attended school. She graduated from Field Kindley High School, and attended Coffeyville Junior College. On March 14, 1936, she married Earl V. "Rudy" McCarter at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where they raised their daughters. Later Marjorie worked as a secretary at Continental Can, and the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Service until retiring. For several years they lived at Havana Lake and enjoyed the activities that took place. The also enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. Marjorie enjoyed Revolutionary War history, making quilts and was an avid reader. She knitted beautiful afghans , and sweaters for her children and grandchildren. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Jane Dean Coffey Chapter of DAR, Athaneum Club, Flying Needles Sewing Club, several Bridge Clubs, Bowling League, and served as a Girl Scout Leader. Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Benning of Wichita, KS and Kathy Fischer and husband Larry of Coffeyville; nine grandchildren, Andy Benning, Tim Benning, David Benning, Chris Benning, Steve Fischer, Angela Davis, Cindy Shields, Julie Filby, and Dan Fischer; twenty great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl "Rudy" McCarter, two brothers, Carl Masters and James Masters; two sisters, Virginia Friedman and Patricia Graham; and grandson, Jeff Benning. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 15, 2015 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Mother Antoinette Tackkett officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call on Sunday, June 14, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to St. Paul's Episcopal Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
