Obituary of Seth B. Parker

Seth B. Parker, 89, of Tyro, KS passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Coffeyville Regional Center. He was born March 24, 1926 at rural Wann, OK to William and Nellie (Phillips) Parker. His family moved from job to job throughout Oklahoma during the depression where he attended rural grade schools. They later settled in the sand hills west of Caney where he and his siblings attended Caney High School in Caney, KS. Seth was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign with the 362nd Field Artillery Battalion from July 1944 until being honorably discharged in June 1946. On June 18, 1947 he married Jean Clayton at Independence, KS. Following their marriage they made their home in Tyro where they raised their family. Seth was employed for 44 years at the Coop Refinery and Farmland Refiner until retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Tyro Christian Church in Tyro. Seth enjoyed keeping busy doing woodworking, and loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Jean of the home; two sons, Greg Parker of Caney, KS and Mike Parker and his wife June of Claremore, OK; eight grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Beverly Parker. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2015 at the Tyro Christian Church with Evangelist David Bycroft officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, KS. Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
