Martha Evelyn McKee, 96, of Tulsa, formerly of rural Coffeyville, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2007 at St. Francis Medical Center.
She was born April 3, 1911 at Niangua, Missouri to William Columbus and Elsberrie Hefner Yeubanks. She attended Field Kindley Memorial High School in Coffeyville.
On May 15, 1930 she married Clyde McKee in Independence, Kansas.Evelyn and Clyde farmed at the Big Creek area near Edna and Coffeyville until moving to Miami, Oklahoma. In 1949 Evelyn and Clyde moved the family to Rock Island, Illinois, returning to the Coffeyville area in 1976, later moving to Tulsa.
In addition to loving the classes she taught at Thompson School, she loved learning for herself as well. She earned a bachelor's degree from Mary Crest College in Davenport, Iowa, while completing her graduate studies at Mary Crest College also.
Aside from teaching school, Evelyn loved to travel, particularly for mission work in the Caribbean and Central America with her husband.
Evelyn was very involved in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the American Association of University Women.
Survivors include two daughters, Elnora Wands and Glenda Hayes, both of Denver, Colorado; two sons, W. Daryl McKee of Columbia, SouthCarolina and C.H. McKee (Hazel) of Tulsa; sixteen grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son, Paul.
Services will be Sunday, September, 23, 2007 in the Pleasant View Church of God, southeast of Edna, Kansas at 2:00pm. Burial at North Edna Cemetery will immediately follow the service.
Friends may call on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville from 9am - 9pm. The family will be receiving friends from 2 - 4 in the afternoon.
