Obituary of Karen Sue Kennedy

Karen Sue Kennedy passed peacefully on November 1, 2015 in her hometown of Coffeyville, KS, at the age of 72. Born Karen Sue Hatfield on February 1, 1943 in Coffeyville, Kansas. She was the daughter of Etsyl and Ruby Anne. She married Paul Dee Kennedy November 3, 1969 and together they raised 4 children Sherrie, Tom, Deena, and Lee. Karen and Paul enjoyed family time, staying in their cabin cruiser on Grand Lake, traveling in their RV, trips to Branson with her sister & Brother-in-law, Shirley & Dale, cooking, hosting holiday meals, crotchet, serving in the Shriner's association, reading, photography, and muscle cars. At the age of 5, she joined Coffeyville Public Library; checked out record breaking 1,460 books throughout her life. She went to Field Kindley High School and attended college at CCC. Karen was a nurses aide at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center; together with her husband Paul, they operated Kiss Photo and Kennedy Sweeper Sales & Service on 902 W. 8th Street in Coffeyville. Survivors include her husband of 46 years Paul Dee Kennedy and children; Steven Lee Kennedy and wife Donna of Albuquerque, NM, Deena Martin and husband Roscoe of Tulsa, OK, Sherrie Hyer and husband John of The Villages, FL and Tom Kennedy of Sarasota, FL; Grandchildren; Victoria Santagata, Jamie Hultz, Jennifer Taylor-Despotovic, James C. Taylor III, Matt Buetow, Angie Buetow, Jed Kennedy, Chase Kennedy, Collin Kennedy, Daniel Garcia, Jeffery Garcia, and Andrew Case; great-grandchildren Kaci & Karla Hultz, Cannen Farha, Chloe & Lillian Taylor, and Marko Despotovic; Sisters; Shirley Chandler and husband Dale of Overland Park, KS, Linda Mann, and Alice Ingersol. Brothers; Curtis Caraway and Mike Tipton. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents William and Grace Hatfield; grandchildren Amanda and Marisa Buetow. A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday November 7th at 3:00 p.m. at Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to The Shriner's Children's Hospital or your favorite charity these contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
