Please share a memory of Dwight to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dwight E. Bennett, 87, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2015, at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. Dwight was born on March 15, 1928, in Altamont, Kansas to Roy and Blanche (Raymond) Bennett. He grew up in the Altamont area where he attended Fairview Grade School. He graduated from Labette County High School in 1946, and later from Coffeyville Junior College. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army. During his service, he was stationed in Germany. He enjoyed sharing stories of the time he spent in Europe; particularly France and Germany. On May 23, 1959, in Chanute, Kansas he married Mary Rosales. The couple made their home in Coffeyville where they raised their two children, Pat and Carla. Dwight began working at the refinery in Coffeyville in 1947, where he worked until retiring in 1990 as a machinist after forty-three years. Except for his military service, the refinery was Dwight's only place of employment. He attended the Methodist Church, was a lifetime member of the VFW, the American Legion, and the SEK Mounted Posses Saddle Club. He was instrumental in starting the Avenue of Flags in the mid-1960s and was active with it until his health prevented him from doing so. He also volunteered at the American Red Cross for many years and was a Red Cross Blood Gold Donor (50 plus years). Dwight was passionate about horses and cars, but most of all, he enjoyed the time he spent surrounded by his family and friends. Surviving to honor his memory are his loving wife, Mary of the home; daughters, Pat Bennett Hanna and husband, Everett of Grove, Oklahoma; Carla Bennett of Lawrence, Kansas; sister, Martha Duecy of Erie, Kansas; grandchildren, Jon-Tyler Hanna and wife Nicole, Caitlin Owens and husband Ross, Stevie Maria Adrian; and great-grandchildren, Christopher Hanna and Gabriel Hanna.
