Obituary of Dorosia Ann Minniear

Dorosia Ann "Dottie" Minniear of Coffeyville passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Windsor Place.
Miss Minniear was born February 18, 1931 in Coffeyville, Kansas to William A. and Mary Jo (Parker) Minniear. The family lived in Coffeyville and when she was an infant, they were involved in a traffic accident in Claremore, Oklahoma while waiting at a train crossing. Many thought she had been affected by polio, when actually this was the result of the accident, where Miss Minniear suffered a brain concussion and fractured skull. She attended schools locally, graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1949. Dottie graduated from Coffeyville Junior College and Pittsburg State College, ultimately earning the Master's of Science Degree in Education. She taught full-time in Oswego, Muncie and Chanute, Kansas public schools for three years. For a period of time, she also worked at Winfield State Training School for the Handicapped, through the Chaplain's Department, as well as teaching Sunday School classes.
She was a life member of National Education Association; honorary life member of Roosevelt Elementary Parent-Teacher Association, of Chanute, Kansas; member of AAUW, Chanute; First Baptist Church and Southeast Kansas Handicapped Club.
She is survived by: one niece, Cynthia Lynne Baker of Anderson, South Carolina; two cousins and numerous extended family.
She is preceded in death by her father, William, who died in 1964 in Cave Junction, Oregon; mother, Mary Jo, who died in 1989 and one sister, Carol Jane Eppler, who died in 1980.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas. Dr. J. Dean McNamara of the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville will officiate.
Friends may call on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the casket remaining closed.
In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome memorials to First Baptist Church of Coffeyville or Coffeyville Community College Music Scholarship Fund; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
