James Joseph Startz, 93, formerly of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016 in Kansas City, Kansas. James was born on August 7, 1922 in Liberty, Kansas to John and Martha (Strutzel) Startz. He grew up in Coffeyville and received his high school diploma from Field Kindley Memorial High School. After high school he attended Coffeyville Community College. James earned the rank of Sergeant serving his country in the United States Army. He served in the 8th Air Force in England and received an American Theater Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Ribbon. James was a retired sheet metal worker and a member of the Catholic Church. He is survived by his brother, Elmer Startz of Midland, Texas and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha; brothers, Ambrose, Raymond and Clarence Startz and by his sister, Consuella (Connie) Startz Dolenz. A Rosary Service will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to immediately follow with Father Chad Arnold officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, February 5, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home to sign the guest register.
