Sedan - Paul Warrick Sturges, age 88, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Monday, September 3, 2007 at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan, Kansas. He was born September 20, 1918 in the Lafayette Township, rural Sedan, Kansas to Warrick Starr and Effie Pearl (Zollman) Sturges. He graduated in the top ten in his class from the Sedan High School in 1937. He married Ruth Wasson on December 23, 1944 in the First Baptist Church Parsonage in Sedan, Kansas. As a young man, he farmed with his brothers Charlie and Myron Sturges. In 1968, he began working for the O & B Oil Company of Elk Falls for many years, retiring in 1993. He was a lifetime resident of Chautauqua County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sedan where he was a deacon and trustee, and active in the Men's Fellowship. He also enjoyed pitching horseshoes and in 1991, he won his class at the World Horseshoe Pitching Tournament in Biloxi, Mississippi. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Sturges of the home in Sedan, Kansas; two sons, Howard Sturges and his wife Joan of Napa, California and Jim Sturges and his wife Angel of Purcellville, Virginia; one daughter, Sally Sturges of Sedan, Kansas; five grandchildren, Julie and her husband Shane Honig, J.T. Whited, Steven Sturges, Sylvia Decker and Cherie Bramlett; seven great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Myron and three sisters, Mary Potter, Ethel Wallace and Esther Selter. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 5, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan. Services will be held Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Sedan with Reverend Dean McNamara and The Reverend Barbara K. Bloxsom officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan. The family has suggested memorials to the First Baptist Church, Chautauqua County Home Health Department, or the Sedan City Hospital and these remembrances can be left in care the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas Street, Sedan, Kansas 67361. David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan is in charge of arrangements.
