Mary (VanLeeuwen) Seidl, 79, of Chanute passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016, Neosho Regional Medical Center in Chanute. She was born on March 31, 1936 in the home at Walnut Kansas to John and Ruth (Mudd) VanLeeuwen. Mary grew up on the family farm in rural Walnut, KS, she received her education in the Walnut area graduating from St. Patrick's Catholic High School in Walnut. On November 7, 1964, she married Ralph E. Seidl at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Walnut. Following their marriage they made their home southwest of Chanute where they raised their three children. Her husband preceded her in death on August 17, 1989. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Chanute where she served as Eucharistic Minister, was a member of Altar Society, and volunteered at the St. Pat's Thrift Store. Mary was also a member of Senior Citizens Activity, RSVP volunteer, American Legion Women's Auxiliary and a Life Member of the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary. Mary enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. Her hobbies included playing cards and painting. Survivors include her daughter, Sherri Glein and her husband Randy of Los Altos, CA; her son, Ed Seidl and his wife Bridget of De Soto, KS; her daughter-in-law, Lori Seidl of Olathe; one sister, Delia "Dee" Seiwert of St. Paul, KS; two brothers, Bob VanLeeuwen of Dayton, OH, and Jerry VanLeeuwen of Walnut, KS; and seven grandchildren, Joseph, Samuel, Elizabeth, Alan, and Emma Seidl and Matthew and Rachel Glein. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, William (Bill) Seidl, three sisters, Cecilia VanLeeuwen, Roselle Marnell, Vera Karleskint; and four brothers, Jack VanLeeuwen, Don VanLeeuwen, Hubert VanLeeuwen, and Leroy VanLeeuwen. A Rosary Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2016 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Chanute. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 9, 2016 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Michael Linnebur officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Chanute. Friends may call on Friday from 500 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Chanute. The family suggests memorials to St. Patrick's Catholic Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
