Cora M. Bayes, 96, of Coffeyville, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016, in Claremore, OK. She was born on November 5, 1919, at Edna, KS to Evans William and Lois Irene (Higginson) Ferrell. Cora grew up and attended school in the Edna area, graduating from Labette County High School in Altamont. She married Neil Mairs they had two children, he preceded her in death. She later married Wayne Bayes, he preceded her in death. For many years Cora made her home in California where she was employed as a Registered Nurse working in Behavioral Health for the State of California. Survivors include one daughter, Sue Johnson of California; one daughter-in-law, Sue Mairs of California; and two sisters, Jean Frazier of Broken Arrow, OK, and Jane Armstrong of Locust Grove, OK. Graveside Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at the Fairview Cemetery Veterans Memorial Patio in Coffeyville, with Pastor Tony Penn officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park in Coffeyville. Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
