Robert Edward "Bob" Kline, age 63, of rural Elk City, Kansas, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2007 at St. John's Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He was born December 6, 1943 in Great Falls, Montana to Melvin Ray and Helen (Tacke) Kline. He grew up and attended school at St. Joseph's, and Assumption Abby in Richardton, North Dakota. He graduated from high school in Great Falls, Montana. He served in the United States Army in the Electronic Counter Measures Division.
In February of 1969, he married Linda K. Aiken of rural Chautauqua County in Independence, Kansas at the St. Andrew's Catholic Church. They joined Linda's family in farming and operated a 120-cow dairy. In 1990, he went to work for Chautauqua County in the County Appraiser's office. He was also the County Appraiser for Neosho County for six years. Over the next few years, he earned the Certificate of Registered Mass Appraiser of the State of Kansas. He had also served as Southeast Kansas County Appraiser Association President and Vice President. He was currently employed as the County Appraiser in Montgomery County.
He was very active in Chautauqua County Farm Bureau as well as the State and National Farm Bureau. He was on the Kansas State Board of Directors and held nearly every local board officer position during the thirty-eight years he was a member. He was a member of the County Republican Community and helped write several significant legislature bills. He currently served as County Selective Service Director. He was also a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Independence, Kansas.
He enjoyed fishing with his children, grandchildren and their many friends and woodcarving.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home in rural Elk City, Kansas; two sons, Brian Kline and his wife Donna and their children, Dustin, Cheyenne, Alyssa, Jessica and Elizabeth of rural Elk City, Kansas and Kevin Kline and his wife Nicole of Seattle, Washington; one brother, Bill Kline and his wife Dina of Ft. Benton, Montana; two sisters, Lillian Fry and her husband Dennis of Aurora, Colorado and Marilyn and her husband Rick of Calgary, Canada and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place and a Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 23, 2007 at the St. Robert's Catholic Church in Sedan, Kansas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, August 24, 2007 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Independence, Kansas with Father Dan Vacca officiating.
Friends may sign the register book Wednesday, August 22, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. until
5:00 p.m., Thursday, August 23, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Friday, August 24, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Annual Kids Fun Fish Clinic and these remembrances may be left with the funeral home, or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 North Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
