Please share a memory of Carmen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carmen LaRayne Burnett, 57 of 2406 W 8th St., Coffeyville, KS, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 3, 2016 after a long illness.
Carmen was born on June 14, 1958 to Marion Burnett and Ethel Hardrick Burnett in Nowata, OK. She began her education at Lincoln School in Nowata and graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1977. She attended Coffeyville Community Junior College and Pittsburg State University where her focus was on Art. She lived in Wichita KS and Seattle WA before resettling back in Coffeyville.
Whether you knew her as Carmen, LaRayne, or Ranie, you know that she was a soft-spoken and relatively quiet person, but not when she spoke of what God had brought her through. She often testified of her experience of "going to hell and coming back". Her faith was strong and her belief in the one, true God carried her through. She was a member of First Church of God in Christ Family Worship Center. LaRayne was an avid reader, especially spiritual books and the Holy Bible.
As a teenager and in her early adult years, she often drew, even creating a portrait of her favorite NFL player, Franco Harris (former running back with the Pittsburgh Steelers). She was also into physical fitness and working out way back in the '70's before it became the fashionable thing to do. She had "her style" and she would not go anywhere without makeup. LaRayne was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for her sons and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father; Marion Burnett, a brother; Marlon Burnett, and a grandson; Markell Burnett. She leaves to cherish her memory; 3 sons; Clinton Burnett, Antonio Burnett and Ramon Burnett, all of Coffeyville, along with 16 grandchildren; Gabriel, Marquise, LaKeisha, Jamaul, Aliaize, Mya, Jada, Taveon, Dreden, Samuele, Carmen, Zah'mia, Izanea, Stephanie, Tehya, and Abel, as well as her mother, Ethel Colbert of Coffeyville.
he is also survived by 9 sisters; Harriett (Herbert) Martin, Willetta (Jay) Stevenson, Valorie Clay and Tamara Warren, all of Coffeyville; Kimberly Burnett of Independence KS, Glenna Hardrick of Plano TX, Lori Hoffman of Carrollton TX, Celestine Burnett of Albuquerque NM, and Yasmin Burnett of Tulsa OK; 5 brothers; Hollis Carnell (Rickelle) Burnett of Fremont CA, William (Josie) Burnett of Sturgis SD, Chevelle Burnett and Chris Burnett of Los Angeles CA, and Milan Burnett of Parsons KS. Also left to cherish her memory are 2 aunts; Jewel Anderson of Burlington KS, Gwendolyn Meigs of Denver CO, dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins, her church family and many friends. Two other people who held a special place in her heart are, Johnny Ausler, with whom she shared a life-long relationship, and Vanessa Garcia, who, along with Ramon, cared for her until she went home to be with the Lord.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016, at the First Church of God Family Worship Center, 2802 West 1st St., Coffeyville, KS with Pastor Melvin Simpson, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville
