Obituary of Lorraine Anne Taylor

Please share a memory of Lorraine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Longtime Coffeyville resident Lorraine Anne Taylor passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016 at her daughter's home in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she had resided the last several years. Lorraine was born on July 26, 1924 to Martin and Anna (Kotlarz) Kusek in Omaha, NE. Lorraine attended St.Francis Catholic School and later graduated from Cathedral High School in Omaha. After attending business school, Lorraine was hired at Mutual of Omaha. Lorraine married Norman E. Taylor on June 14, 1952 in Omaha. The couple was married for 46 years prior to Norm's death in 1998. Norm and Lorraine enjoyed many adventures throughout their marriage including trips to the Kentucky Derby, the very first Green Bay Packers game, the World Series, and various other trips. Having moved around the country, the couple collected many lifelong friends in Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and, of course, Kansas. In Coffeyville, Holy Name Church was very important to Norm and Lorraine. While Norman was very active in leading the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, Lorraine was equally busy assisting with bingo, Fourth Degree dinners and the various duties associated with the Knights. Lorraine was also active in the Holy Name Altar Society, participating in Circle activities, the Fall Bazaar, and potluck dinners. Lorraine also volunteered at the Rectory for many years, serving Fr. O'Hare and most of the priests that followed him. Lorraine was very proud of her service to the priests and shared many fun stories about the various diocesan priests and even a Bishop or two. In addition to volunteering at Holy Name, Lorraine and Norm danced with the Sasnak Dance Club of Coffeyville in the 1970s. Norm and Lorraine hosted many, many Coffeyville Red Ravens football dinners during the 70s and enjoyed following the careers of those that went on to play in major colleges and even the NFL. Lorraine was also a Cub Scout den mother, worked at the voting polls and also volunteered at blood donation events. Lorraine very much enjoyed being invited to read to the elementary students at Holy Name School and was touched to receive frequent letters from the students up until the time of her death. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Norman, her parents, Martin and Anna, and eight of her siblings. Lorraine is survived by her brother Louis Kusek of Prairie Village, KS. Lorraine is also survived by her children: JoAnn E. and Ronald Binsfeld of Sartell, MN; Frank C. and Paula Taylor of St. Michael, MN; Theresa M. Martin of Burlington, KS; Katherine L. and David Freeman of Burlington, KS; John S. and Lindsey Taylor of Henderson, NV; Margaret M. and Tod Roberts of Tulsa, OK; James E. and Patti Taylor of Lawrence, KS; Joseph M. and Alexandrea Taylor of St. Louis, MO; twenty grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, along with another great grandchild due later this year. A Rosary Vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Holy Name Catholic Church, 408 Willow St, Coffeyville, KS. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Fr. Chad Arnold presiding. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may sign the register book on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337. The family would like to extend special thanks to the students of Holy Name School for their frequent cards, letters and well wishes through the years of Lorraine's illness. Thank-you also to the women of the Holy Name Altar and Rosary Society, we appreciated your prayers and weekly notes. Sr. Janelle and Mary Schlect, we want to thank-you for your friendship and prayers. Lastly, we would be remiss without thanking the Tim and Marci Roberts family, the Robert and Tonya Kriebel family, and Dee and Judy Roberts for always including Lorraine in the family gatherings and holiday festivities. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Holy Name Catholic School or Holy Name Catholic Church. Contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed to the family in care of Margaret Roberts, 8744 S. Delaware Pl, Tulsa, OK 74137.
