Obituary of Mary Bates

Mary Catherine Bates, 69, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. Mary was born on July 23, 1946 in Coffeyville to Orval and Rachel (Montgomery) Taylor. She attended local schools. Mary earned her Certified Nurse's Aide certification and worked as a CNA in Coffeyville for many years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Coffeyville. Mary enjoyed watching television and movies, crocheting, visiting over a cup of coffee and most of all she loved being surrounded by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orval and Rachel; her son, Raymond Bates; brother, Phillip Scott and two infant brothers. Surviving to honor her memory are her children, Leatha Cool of Newton, Kansas, James Bates, Audrey Simpson and husband, Roy, Stephanie Owens and Matthew Farris all of Coffeyville, Kansas; sister, Gloria Noblitt and family of Coffeyville, Kansas; grandchildren, Alex Cool, Ty Cain, Shane Cain, Timothy Bates, Joseph Drake, Sandy Bates, Jeremy Bates, Jamie Bates, Jordan Owens, Kylie Owens, Ryan Farris, Jonathan Farris, Joseph Farris; numerous great grandchildren along with many extended family and friends. Cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The nursing home will be hosting a memorial gathering that will take place on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Windsor Place Campus Center. Chaplain Mike Graham will officiate.
