Ellen Marie Pond, 56, of Sedan, passed away Saturday morning (August 4, 2007) at St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita.
She was born January 13, 1951 at Anamosa, Iowa to Tom and Jane (Dishman) Northrup. She grew up and attended school in Neodesha, graduating from Neodesha High School. Following high school, she attended Stapps School of Cosmetology in Joplin, MO, and later attended Butler County Community College School of Nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse.
On February 7, 1971, she married Mick Pond at Neodesha. Following their marriage they lived in several different areas of the United States while her husband was in the U.S. Navy. Following his discharge they lived in Pittsburg, KS while he finished his degree in education. They later lived in Winfield, Florence, and Dexter, moving to Sedan in 1985 where Mr. Pond was Principal and later Superintendent of Schools. They moved to Erie where he was Superintendent until he retired and returned to Sedan to make their home.
Ellen was a member of the First Christian Church in Sedan.
Survivors include her husband, Mick of the home in Sedan; four sons; Mick and Shannon Pond and their children, Michaela and Olivia of Longmont, CO, Tom and Amber Pond and their children, Johnnie, Janie, and Ellie of Havana, KS, Phillip and Bobbi Pond and their children, Meloni, Meleena, and Andru of San Antonio, TX, and Josh and Angela Pond and their children, Isabella, and Annalesa of Manhattan, KS; and three sisters, Wanda McDougal of Cherryvale, Linda Niver of Independence, and Debbie Osborn of San Antonio, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard Northrup.
A Memorial Graveside Service will be at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 7, 2007 in the Neodesha City Cemetery in Neodesha, Kansas with Reverend Kenny Richards officiating.
The family suggests memorials to Neodesha High School for a student planning to become a Registered Nurse. Contributions may be left with the funeral home, or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 North Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
