Obituary of James Franklin Neighbors

James Franklin Neighbors, 77, of Coffeyville passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Medicalodge of Coffeyville.
He was born on October 29, 1938, at Hallett, OK to Orbe and Augusta (Brown) Neighbors. When he was young his family moved to Bowring, OK where Jim grew up and attended school graduating from Bowring High School in 1957.
Jim was a veteran of U.S. Army serving from June 1957 until receiving his Honorable Discharge in April 1959.
On December 19, 1964, Jim was united in marriage to the love of his life Lavonne Wall. Following their marriage they considered Sedan their home while Jim worked construction. In 1968 they moved to Coffeyville where Jim worked at Kansas Lumber for several years, he later worked at Parmac, for Montgomery County and Thompson Lumber. He retired in 1998 due to his health.
Jim grew up attending the Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on small engines, woodworking, and leather work, but his greatest love was spending time with his wife, Lavonne and their families.
Survivors include his wife, Lavonne of the home; one sister, Billie Hays of Oklahoma City, OK; and many other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Clifton Moore; one sister, two brothers, one step-sister, and one step-brother.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at the Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville with Pastor Mark Wilson of the First Church of God officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1022 and American Legion #20.
Friends may call on Tuesday, the 21st of September from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
