James "Jim" Leroy Wintjen, 83 of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away, Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville, Kansas Jim was born July 1, 1933, in Kimball, Kansas to Pearl Douglas and Sarah Elizabeth (Shipman) Wintjen. He lived in many several different places including Erie, KS, Shaw, KS, Stark, KS and Nowata, OK before settling in Coffeyville, KS. He graduated from Erie High School. He attended CCC and played football for a year. He went to work for Acme Foundry in 1952. He left the foundry September 1, 1953 to join the Army, serving for 3 years before being honorably discharged August 18, 1956. During his enlistment, he spent 1 ½ years in Frankfort, Germany. Upon discharge, he returned home to Coffeyville. After 43 years at Acme, Jim retired from his position as maintenance supervisor. He married Gwynne Miller December 20, 1958 and had 3 sons, David Leroy, Phillip Ray and William Zeke. Gwynne preceded him in death on March 24, 2009 after 50 years of marriage. Jim remarried on December 11, 2011 to Peggy Barnes Reynolds of Edna, KS. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Coffeyville, KS, former Shriner Member. He loved his family and his fishing. In addition to being preceded in death by his first wife, Gwynne; he was also preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, of the home, 3 sons, David Wintjen and companion Pamela Boatnight, Phillip Wintjen and his wife Denise, all of Coffeyville, and son Zeke Wintjen and his wife Debbie of Clute, TX, 3 brothers, Ronald Wintjen and wife Wanda of Nowata, OK, Larry Wintjen and his wife Rita, of Coffeyville, KS George Wintjen and his wife Janie of Independence, KS ; 3 sisters, Joyce Bonine, Peggy Seward, both of Onawa, IA and Ruby Best and her husband, Jerry of Coffeyville, KS, 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. on, Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the First Christian Church of Coffeyville with Pastor Gordon Wilhite officiating. Burial will follow at Robbins Cemetery, west of Coffeyville. Friends may call on Saturday, September 24th from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. The family has suggested memorial contributions to First Christian Church and may be left at the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline, Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
