Melvin D. "Lefty" Sueltz, 88, of Coffeyville passed away Friday, October 28, 2016, at Windsor Place. He was born on September 15, 1928, at Quinton, OK to Herman George and Minnie Bell (Moore) Sueltz. When he was young his family moved to Dearing, KS where he grew up and attended Dearing Grade School and completed his education in Coffeyville attending Roosevelt Junior High School and graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1947. Lefty was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force serving from October 8, 1947, until receiving his Honorable Discharge on October 9, 1951. On March 29, 1957, he married the love of his life Emma Belle Meredith at Miami, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where they raised their family. His wife preceded him in death on May 10, 2003. Lefty was a postal clerk with the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years retiring on March 1, 1989. He attended the Methodist Church, was a member of V.F. W. Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20. Lefty enjoyed football watching the Oklahoma University Sooners and the Dallas Cowboys, he also enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and dancing, but most of all loved spending time with his family. Survivors include three daughters, Sheri Sueltz and Janet Sandusky both of Coffeyville, and Judi Stallings of Edna, KS; two sons, Gary Sueltz of Carl Junction, MO, and Larry Tilcock of Carson City, NV; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, two sisters, Opal Taylor and Palma Gierke; two grandchildren, Stacy Tilcock, and Heath Sueltz; and one great-grandchild, Claire Annabelle Adkins. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at the Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville. Friends may call on Monday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to the Disabled American Veterans or the American Cancer Society; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
