Obituary of James Vance Scott

James Vance Scott, 94, of Coffeyville passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
He was born on September 26, 1922, at rural Lenapah, Oklahoma to James A. and Laura Belle (Harrison) Scott. James grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School.
James was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Marine Corp.
On March 10, 1945, he married Agnes E. Cribbin at San Diego, California. Following their marriage they made their home in California while they both served in the Marine Corp. Following their discharge they returned to the Coffeyville area where Jim began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. His work took the family to Hutchinson and Independence, later returning to Coffeyville. Jim retired after 37 years. His wife preceded him in death on March 8, 1999.
He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Joyce Kilmer Assembly of 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, a proud member of the Cherokee Nation, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Marine Corp League.
Survivors include one son, James M. Scott of Coffeyville; one daughter, Valerie Blea of Coffeyville; one sister, Pat Sikes of Wichita; one granddaughter, Cassidy Blea of Nevada, MO; and one great granddaughter, Raven Lily Cretell of Nevada, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, and two sisters.
A Rosary Vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 14th at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Chad Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call on Monday, November 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to Holy Name Catholic School; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
