Obituary of Betty Jean VanWinkle-Kimmons

Betty Jean VanWinkle-Kimmons, 87 of Coffeyville, KS passed away Monday, November 14, 2016 at Windsor Place.
Betty was born February 23, 1929 at Dearing, KS to William and Hester (Baker) Andrews. At the age of three the family moved to a farm in rural Angola. She started elementary school in Prairie Hall School. In 1938, the family moved to the Valeda area. She graduated high school from LCCHS at Atlamont, KS. Later she graduated from Coffeyville Community College and taught school six years in rural schools of Labette and Montgomery Counties. She then retired from teaching to raise her family.
On June 2, 1951, she married Leslie Harold VanWinkle. They made their home in Coffeyville until 1964 when they moved to rural Edna, where they raised their four children and were active in the First Baptist Church. Betty moved to Coffeyville in 1994 and joined the First Southern Baptist Church and enjoyed working in the children's department. In 2006, she met and married Hugh Kimmons and they moved to their present home.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by one son, Harold Kent VanWinkle in 1975 and her husband, Leslie Harold VanWinkle in 1991.
Betty is survived by her husband, Hugh Kimmons of the home; her children, Bryan VanWinkle (Theresa) of Sapulpa, OK, Leslie Ferguson (Jerry) of Broken Arrow, OK, Connie Densmore (John) of Las Vegas, NV, step-children, Mike Kimmons , Sondra Ferguson and Janet Reynolds all of Coffeyville, six sisters, Billie Walker of Coffeyville, KS, Barbara Wildcat of Lawrence, KS, Bertha Dean and Bernice Phillips of Parsons, KS, Bonnie Hagan of St. Charles, MO and Bonita Miller of Sedan, KS, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 18, 2016 at First Southern Baptist Church with her grandson, Mark Densmore officiating. Burial will follow at North Edna Cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
