Lorraine Hurley, 79, of Coffeyville, passed away Friday (July 27, 2007) at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
She was born April 1, 1928, at East Taunton, Massachusetts, to Frank and Mary (Sousa) Teixeira. She grew up and attended school in Taunton, Massachusetts.
On March 2, 1946 she married Paul Hurley at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Taunton, Massachusetts. Following their marriage they made their home Massachusetts and Pennsylvania before moving to Coffeyville in 1949.
She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Holy Name Altar Society, Past President of the Altar Society, Lorraine was also a member of Holy Name Catholic School P.T.O. and was leader of the C.Y.O group at Holy Name for many years. To the students at Holy Name School she was known as Grandma Hurley volunteering to assist in whatever capacity she was needed. She also enjoyed being Santa Claus at nursing homes and schools in Coffeyville.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Hurley, Sr. of Coffeyville; four daughters, Anna Marie (Willis) Plute, Patricia (Brent) Drum, Debra (Mike) Baldwin, and Melissa Hurley all of Coffeyville; one son, Paul (Teri) Hurley, Jr. of Coffeyville; one brother, James Teixeira of Taunton, MA; 15 grandchildren, Regina Wintjen, Alicia (Richard) Yates, Ryan (Tom) Taffner, Blair Plute, Melissa (Mike) Stewart, Dawn (Preston) Jones, April (Jimmy) Swift, Paul Thomas Hurley, Brandy (Scott) McFall, Christopher (Nikole) Drum, Dustin (Brandy) Andrews, Desmond (Lindsey) Andrews, Dirk Andrews, Diedra Andrews, and Austin Baldwin; 12 great-grandchildren, Cory Yates, Richy Yates, Heide Yates, Dylan Taffner, Stephanie Stewart, Jordan Jones, Jared Swift, Adam Swift, Charli Drum, Isabelle Andrews and William Andrews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister, one grandson, Jason Drum, and one great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Wintjen.
A Rosary Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday (July 30, 2007) at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (July 31, 2007) at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Jerome Spexarth officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville.
Friends may sign the register book on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Monday (July 30, 2007) from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, the casket will be closed.
The family suggests memorials to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
