Please accept my deepest sympathy at the passing of Miss Austin. I am one of many who passed through Garfield, who she positively impacted! She was part of my childhood experience.

My sympathy to Juanita's family. I started my teaching career and worked with Juanita at Garfield. I also had the privilege of spending time with her at our teacher sorority meetings. What a sweet person and I have been blessed to know her. I will miss my friend.

Miss Austin was my daughter Sally's first grade teacher and Sally loved her dearly. I worked with her for 7 years through the Garfield PTA. Later I taught at Garfield but Juanita was already retired, but still joined us for Christmas parties and dinners. In most recent years I have joined her and other Garfield retired teachers for their monthly luncheons when I was able to. About 2 years ago Sally joined me for one of the luncheons and wanted to sit right next to "Miss Austin"!
Juanita just beamed!
When I told Sally that she had passed she said "My heart is crushed. I loved that woman. She will be missed by many.
