Waylon Lee Johnson, 53, of Coffeyville, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at Independence, Kansas. He was born in Coffeyville, Kansas on December 16, 1963. He was the fifth child born to Nathaniel and Levoter Johnson. Waylon attended Cleveland Elementary, McKinley Middle School, Roosevelt Junior High and Field Kindley High School. While growing up he excelled in sports, especially in baseball and basketball. He attended Church of God in Christ as a child and served under Pastor John Watson. Johnson received an Associates of Science degree from Community College in Independence, Kansas. Waylon enjoyed traveling and has lived in Coffeyville, Independence, Olathe, Kansas City and California. Waylon was a people person and was often known to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed him. His favorite phrase was "Do you feel me?" Waylon had a passion for grilling, family gatherings, sports watching, enjoying life and dressing sharp. Waylon was preceded in death by his father, Nathaniel Johnson, and mother, Levoter "Billie" Johnson. He is survived by his one brother, Nathaniel Johnson, Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri; and five sisters, Nicketa Nevils of Bartlesville, Oklahonma, Susan Stephens, Lorna Doyle, Levoter J. Johnson, and Angie Johnson all of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Services celebrating the life of Waylon Lee Johnson will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2017 at the First Church of God in Christ, 2802 West 1st St., Coffeyville, Kansas. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call on Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the First Church of God in Christ.
