Obituary of Charles Raymond Taylor

Charles Raymond Taylor, 92, of Coffeyville passed away Friday, January 6, 2017, at his home.
He was born on July 30, 1924, in Osage County, OK at Denoya to Roy Franklin and Mabel Tell (Stephens) Taylor. His family later moved to the Ramona, OK where Charles graduated from Ramona High School.
Charles was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. After receiving his Honorable Discharge he began working at the U.S. Naval Ordinance Test Station at China Lake, CA.
On November 21, 1950, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Elinor Magdaline Spriesterbach at Santa Barbara, CA. Following their marriage they lived in Ventura where Charles was a service engineer for Baker Oil Tools. In 1973 they moved to a farm near Independence, KS where Charles was a partner in Taylor Brothers Ditching Service. Following his retirement in 1997 they moved to Coffeyville. He was preceded in death by his wife on June 18, 2002.
He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Faith and Light, a Lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1186 in Independence, KS. Charles was an avid reader, enjoyed woodworking, caring for his cattle, being outdoors, and loved Harley-Davidson Motorcycles and enjoyed helping others. But his greatest enjoyment was the time he got to spend with his family.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah L. Martin and husband William of Coffeyville, and Annie Taylor of Paso Robles, CA; two sisters, Pat Cogburn of Glenwood, AR, and Jean Hutchison of Independence, KS; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Mark Taylor in 2008, and two brothers, Merle Taylor and Bill Taylor.
A Rosary Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2017, at Holy Name Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Chad Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to Holy Name Catholic Church or Faith and Light; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
