James Harman Kirchner
James H. "Jim" Kirchner, age 82, longtime resident of Sedan, Kansas passed away, Sunday, July 8, 2007 at his home in Sedan.
He was born on November 22, 1924 in Eureka, Kansas to George and Mamie (Wicker) Kirchner.
He served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II in Hawaii until he was honorably discharged.
On April 1, 1950, he was united in marriage to Betty Jane Willoughby in Sedan, Kansas. She survives at the home.
He worked 38 years and the Sedan Seed House and for USD 286 as a bus driver. He retired in 2000. He continued doing several activities in the community.
He was a member of the Assembly of God Church of Sedan, and he loved woodworking, he loved people, and also driving the school bus for many years.
He is survived by his wife Betty of the home; one son, Mike and his wife Connie Kirchner of Cedar Vale, Kansas; and one daughter, Sherry and husband Larry Jones of Elk City, Kansas; five grandchildren, Dean, Benny, Brandy, Jimmy and Mark; five step-grandchildren, Aaron, Chris, Richard, Donnie, and Joshua; five great-grandchildren, Jeron, Quinton, Ryleigh, James, and Kyler; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.
Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas.
Church services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at the Assembly of God Church in Sedan, Kansas with Reverends Paul Stetz and James Longmate officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas.
Military Rites will be conducted by the United States Marine Corp.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Assembly of God Church Building Fund, contributions may be left with the Funeral Home.
