Obituary of Harry Oris Davis

Harry Oris Davis, 84, of Coffeyville, Kansas entered into eternal rest on Tuesday April 11, 2017 at his home.
He was born on December 5, 1932 in Valeda, Kansas, the son of Marshall and Helen Davis. He attended school in Edna, Kansas graduating from Edna High School in 1950 where he was active in basketball, football, baseball and track. After graduation Harry went to work for Peele Motor Stairs in Richmond, Indiana. When he returned to Edna he was employed by Dixon Manufacturing Company in Coffeyville.
In 1952 he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. On July 7, 1953 he and Gladys Louise Rench were united in marriage at the Central Nazarene Church in Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in San Antonio, Texas while he was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base. After receiving his honorable discharge the couple returned to Coffeyville to make their home. He returned to work at Dixon and received his Associate of Arts degree from Coffeyville Community College. In 1959 he started employment with the Coffeyville Cooperative Refinery, now known as Coffeyville Resources and after 37 years of service he retired in 1995.
Mr. Davis was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He enjoyed spending time with his children and their families, singing in the church choir, attending concerts, traveling with his wife, Louise, attending sports activities, and fishing with his son and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Louise. One sister Rosalee Calvert of Claremore, Ok. His children and their spouses, Steven and Sandra Davis of Topeka, Ks; John and LaDonna Pruitt of Broken Arrow, Ok; and Gerry and Dianna Taylor of Tyler, Tx. Five grandchildren, Jennifer Munoz, Brian (Christina) Pruitt, Tiffany (Ryan) Gaffney, Jason Taylor and Shaun Pruitt. Five great-grandchildren who loved their "Old Popee" very much.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Elva June Chambers.
Visitation will be held on Friday April 14, 2017 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. Family will greet friends Friday evening at the First Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the First Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville with Pastor James Riekeman officiating. Following the service, burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Lottie Moon Mission, contributions may be left at the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Rd. Coffeyville, Ks 67337.
