Clyde Waltrip, 85, of Coffeyville passed away Monday (July 2, 2007) at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.
He was born February 1, 1922 in Nowata County, Oklahoma to John William and Brittte Mae (Curry) Waltrip. When he was young he moved to California with his family. He received his education in Los Angeles, CA.
Clyde was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge he returned to California where he lived until returning to Coffeyville.
On November 12, 1965, he married Virginia Lou (DeLaughter) Rooks at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where he was employed by the City of Coffeyville at Walter Johnson Park until retiring in 1986 after 30 years of employment.until moving to Eureka, KS in the late 1980's where he worked for the City of Eureka as caretaker of the City Lake. They returned to Coffeyville in 1991 and he worked for Gene Tucker at Eagle Security. Mrs. Waltrip preceded him in death in January 2003.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and enjoyed reading; playing cards especially Pitch, and caring for his pets.
Survivors include one son; Ron Rooks and his wife Jacque of Coffeyville; one daughter, Melissa Wilson and her husband Jerald of Coffeyville; 18 grandchidlren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother and one sister.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday (July 6, 2007) in the Church of Christ with Pastor Clint Howard of the Church of Christ and Pastor Mike Graham of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating . Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association; contributions may be left with the funeral home, or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Rd., Coffeyville, KS 67337.
