Obituary of Verda Myers

Sedan - Verda Myers, age 84, of Sedan, Kansas passed away, Monday, July 2, 2007 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan, Kansas. She was born October 10, 1922 in Fairfax, Oklahoma to William M. and Verda E. (Ware) Keeth. She grew up in Fairfax, Oklahoma and attended school at the Ralston High School in Ralston, Oklahoma until the tenth grade. She married Ora Otis Myers on October 26, 1942 in Cherokee, Oklahoma. They lived in the Hendrick Township in the Elgin area for about sixty-seven years. She worked at the Sedan Floral Shop until her and her husband opened their own store. They owned and operated the grocery store and filling station in Elgin for many years. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1997. She was a member of the First Osage Baptist Church in Fairfax, Oklahoma. She enjoyed fishing and gardening in her free time. She is survived by one son, Ray Myers and wife Lynda of Copan, Oklahoma; three daughters, Darlene Johnson and husband Charles of Ocala, Florida, Lorene Craft of Haviland, Kansas and Hazel Wallace of Houston, Texas; one sister, Betty Norwood of Alabama; ten grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ora; five brothers; four sisters and two grandsons. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 5, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Elgin, Kansas with Reverend Jerry Bever officiating. Interment will follow at the Moore Prairie Cemetery west of Sedan, Kansas. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home and these remembrances may be left with the funeral home.
