Sedan - Roger A. Johnson, age 78, of Mobile, Alabama passed away Thursday, June 28, 2007 at his residence in Mobile, Alabama. He was born September 2, 1928 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Roy and Alta (Smith) Johnson. He grew up and attended school in Wichita, Kansas, graduating from East High School in 1946. He received his bachelor's degrees in Geology and Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Ks. In June of 1948, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he served four years before he was honorably discharged in 1952. He later took a second enlistment in the United States Army and served until he was honorably discharged in 1960. On September 14, 1952 he married Betty Jean Smith in Ft. Bliss, Texas. He worked as a geologist for 38 years retiring in the late 1980's. He worked for the United States Core of Engineers in Mobile, Alabama the last fifteen years before his retirement. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Society of Engineering Geologists, and the American Society of Military Engineers, he also enjoyed reading and reloading his ammunition. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Johnson of the home, two sons, Bruce Allen Johnson of Kansas City, Kansas, and Roy M. Johnson of Mobile, Alabama, and one sister, Evelyn Alldritt of Wichita, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, July 2, 2007 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at the Moore Prairie Cemetery west of Sedan, Kansas with Reverend Jerry Bever of the First United Methodist Church officiating.
