Obituary of Jimmie L. Beiter

Jimmie Lee Beiter, 77, of South Coffeyville, OK, passed away Monday, November 13, 2017, at his home. He was born on March 12, 1940, near Elk Falls, KS, to Henry James "Hank" and Ida Mae (Graham) Beiter. Jim spent his early years in the Elk Falls and Longton area. The family moved to the Howard, KS, area where he attended school and graduated from Howard High School in 1958. Following his Army Reserve training, he attended Independence Community College for one year. From 1957 until 1965, he was a member of the US Army Reserves. On February 18, 1962, he was united in marriage with Mildred G. Royse at Longton, KS. Following their marriage they lived in Independence, KS. Jim worked in law enforcement in Montgomery County with the Independence Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and the Coffeyville Police Department. He later worked as a theft investigator for the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association and was commissioned as a Ranger with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, living in Oklahoma City, OK, and later in McAlester, OK. He returned to the Coffeyville area and worked 30 years in the trucking industry and owned and operated his own truck for 15 of those years. He retired from trucking in 2006. Jim is a member of the Tyro Christian Church. He enjoyed having coffee and spending time with his friends at McDonalds , but especially loved spending time with his wife and family. Survivors include his wife, Mildred of the home; one daughter, Sandra Cook and husband, Tim of Longmont, CO, and one grandson, Billy Cook of Longmont, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Veva Luke. Services celebrating Jim's life will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 17, 2017, at the Tyro Christian Church in Tyro, KS, with Evangelist David Bycroft officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call on Thursday, November 16th from 12.00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Tyro Christian Church or Truck Stop Ministries and contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
