Obituary of Carla J. Almond
Carla J. Gatewood Almond, 66, of Chanute, KS formerly of Coffeyville, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017, at Stroud Regional Medical Center in Stroud, OK.
Carla was born October 12, 1951, at Coffeyville to Clyde and Lorene (Davis) Gatewood. She grew up and attended school in Coffeyville, graduating from Field Kindley High School. She later continued her education at Chanute Community College, graduating as a Registered Nurse.
She married Mike Almond, they were later divorced.
Carla worked as a Registered Nurse in for several years in Coffeyvile and Neodesha until retiring. She was an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed collecting Nascar memorabilia, she also enjoyd going to flea markets, auctions and was a voracious reader. After her retirement she was a volunteer at the Chanute Public Library, where she shared her love of books by reading to children.
Survivors include her patents, Clyde and Lorene Gatewood of Coffeyville; her sister, Arma Gatewood; niece, Natalie Donaldson; and great-nephew, Gabriel Sumner all of Tulsa, OK.
Graveside Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Restlawn Memorial Park in Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
