Obituary of Lum Sidwell
Lum "Sid" Sidwell Jr., 84, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
Sid was born on January 14, 1933 in Windsor, Missouri to Elizabeth (Williams) Sidwell. He grew up n Windsor where he graduated high school. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country during the Korean War until receiving his honorable discharge.
After his time in the service he met Katherine Blackburn and the couple married in 1957. Of that union three children were born they made their home in Kansas City, Kansas where Sid was a manager for A & P Grocery for 35 years. The couple later divorced.
Sid moved to Independence, Kansas. He worked in Coffeyville as store manager of Town and Country, Elmores and Country Mart until his retirement. He married and divorced two other times to Nelda and Karen. He absolutely loved the grocery business. He also enjoyed playing ping pong or as he liked to call it, table tennis. He was a fan and supporter of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball and enjoyed going to Kansas City Chiefs football games and Kansas City Royals games with his family.
He is survived by his three children, Mark Sidwell and wife, Toren of West Virginia, Scott Sidwell and wife, Nancy of Olathe, Kansas, Kristy Frazier and husband, Dan of Olathe, Kansas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clyde Sidwell and a sister.
Following Sid's wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
