Obituary of Della Starrett Price
Della Starrett Price, 96 of Coffeyville, went to be with her lord and savior surrounded by her family Thursday, January 25, 2018, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, OK.
She was born on February 1, 1921, at Keefeton, OK to Jerry LaFeete and Elizabeth (Morgan) Harrison. Della grew up in the Keefeton area and attended Sunny Slope School near Keefeton. She was a member of the Cherokee Tribe and her Native American heritage was an important part of her life. Her grandmother Rebecca Nugent walked the Trail of Tears and was 113 years old when she died.
On December 18, 1941, Della married Paul Starrett at the Presbyterian Church in Muskogee, OK. After her marriage to Paul she followed him in his career of working on the railroad working as a nurse. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1980.
On November 19, 1988, she married John Price at Miami, OK . They lived in Hulbert, OK until his death in 1993. She returned to Coffeyville in 1993.
Della spent a big part of her life working as a Registered Nurse. She began her career working at Muskogee General Hospital in Muskogee, OK, after moving to Coffeyville she worked at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center, then moved to Wichita to work at Wesley Medical Center, returning to Coffeyville to work at Golden Age Lodge now Medicalodges of Coffeyville, later returning to Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. After the death of Paul, she retired and traveled some and upon returning to Coffeyville her friend Katie Thompson asked her to help out at the Roller Dome in Coffeyville for one season, then she became interested in working as a home health nurse for Coffeyville Regional Medical Center, retiring again in 2001.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville, and a former member of The Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. Della loved to dance, and enjoyed singing, playing the guitar, sewing, cooking, gardening and was an avid fan of Elvis. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her three children, Pauline (Doug) Maxson, Marie (Lynn) Carson, and Larry (Lisa) Starrett all of Coffeyville; six grandchildren, Tracy Carson-Duke of Coffeyville, Troy (Robin) Carson of Pittsburg, KS, Shawn (Alyssa) Maxson of Frisco, TX, Casey (Missy) Starrett of Cherryvale, KS, Brian (Lahonna) Oelkers of Edna, KS and David Oelkers of Lakefield, MN, 18 great-grandchildren, Sabrina Duke of Topeka, KS, Zack Woods of Pittsburg, KS, Sheldon Duke of Cedar Falls, IA, Skylar Duke of Wichita,KS, Squire Duke of Coffeyville, Alex Carson of Pittsburg, KS, Braden Maxson, Ashtyn Maxson and Ellery Maxson of Frisco, TX, Caleb Oelkers of Florida, Ethan Starrett and Wyatt Starrett of Cherryvale, KS, Mallory Oelkers, Cadence Oelkers, Harley Oelkers, Gabriel Oelkers, Breann Oelkers of Edna, and Skylar Oelkers of Lakefield, MN; and two great-great-grandchildren, Zarrah Woods and Ace Woods of Pittsburg, KS.

Lell Weir, brothers and their wives Edward (Delea), James (Jewel), Dick (Lea) and Dalton (Oma) Harrison.

A Celebration of Her Life will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018, (Her Birthday) at the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville with Dr. J. Dean McNamara officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
