Obituary of Philip J Sadler

Philip John Sadler, 82, of Coffeyville passed away Friday, January 26 2018 with his family by his side; surrounded with love. Phil was born in Vanderbilt PA to the late Alfred and Edna (Barstow) Paton. In 1970 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Joretta Raines until her untimely passing four years ago. Phil attended schools in Beaver Falls PA. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Technology from Southern IL University and a Bachelor's Degree from Friends University in Human Resources Management. After graduating high school, he enlisted into the Air Force in 1953 in Ground Communication and Aircraft Electronics. After spending most of his time in the Far East; including Vietnam, he retired in 1973 at the rank of TSgt/E-6. Phil's military accommodations included the Airmen's Medal for saving a 12 year old boy who was buried in a sand cave-in by resuscitating him, two Bronze Stars for his Vietnam service, two Air Force Commendation Medals for Vietnam and one for Hawaii, Air Force Achievement Medals for Vietnam and for his retirement, and several other awards. After retiring from the Air Force, he began a long-term career with Western Publishing in Fayetteville N.C. When the company decided to build a facility in Coffeyville he was offered the position as Maintenance Planner and was transferred to begin the construction process. Later he became the Maintenance Manager. Phil retired with Western Publishing after serving 24 years. His maintenance crew was the best staff he ever had. He always had great comments to say about them. Phil was a very active person his whole life. He played and coached football, was a trampoline competitor in high school, and was on bowling leagues. His great passion though was with the American Red Cross. Phil was involved with the Red Cross for 65 years; starting in 1941 when his family's house burnt down and the Red Cross took care of him and his family. He trained several people in the local community on First Aid and CPR, served as Chapter President two terms and two terms on the National Board. Phil is survived by four children; Christopher Sadler and his wife Pam of Florida, Risa Segura and her husband Pedro of Coffeyville, Philip M. Sadler and his wife Pat of Illinois, and Kathy Craig and her husband Bobby of Independence. He also has ten grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters, and his wife. Following his wishes, cremation has taken place; a private family service will be planned at a later date. The family suggests memorials to the Coffeyville American Red Cross, 128 W. 8th St., Coffeyville KS 67337.
