Coffeyville -
L. Fern Campbell, 87, of Coffeyville, formerly of Tyro passed away Wednesday morning (June 13, 2007) in Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
She was born January 6, 1920, in Tyro, KS to Jason and Maude (Walker) Butler. She grew up in the Tyro area where she received her education and graduated from high school. Following high school she attended Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg where she received her bachelor and master degrees in elementary education.
On April 28, 1943, she married Earl Campbell at Roswell, N.M. where Mr. Campbell was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. Following Mr. Campbell's discharge they moved to Coyville, Ks. After moving to Coyville Mrs. Campbell taught school in Coyville and later in Neodesha where she taught for many years. They later moved to a farm north of Tyro, after moving she taught at Dearing School and later at Longfellow Elementary School in Coffeyville where she taught until retiring in the late 1980's. After retiring they moved to Tyro where they made their home until moving to Coffeyville several years ago.
Mrs. Campbell was a member of the Tyro Christian Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, NEA, KNEA and the Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include her husband, Earl of Coffeyville; two sons, James Campbell of East Brewton, Alabama, and Roger Campbell of Choctaw, Oklahoma; 11 Grandchildren; and 13 Great-Grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (June 16, 2007) in the Tyro Christian Church with David Bycoft officiating. Burial will be in the Havana Cemetery at Havana, Kansas.
Friends may call on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
