Obituary of Mary E. LaPona

Mary Elizabeth LaPona, 91, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.

Mary was born on May 11, 1926 in New York City to Vincenzo and Filomena (Tarsielli) LaPona.

In January of 1945 she was united in marriage to Gene Boggs in New York City. The couple relocated to the Coffeyville area after his time in the service. Of that union three children were born. The couple later divorced.

In 1974 Mary moved to the Kansas City area and lived there until her daughter, Jackie moved her back to Coffeyville in 2008 to care for her.

Mary was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. She had a passion for cake decorating and her many talents included sewing, knitting, crocheting, baking, ceramics and planting flowers in the summer time. She always had a smile for everyone. Her personality was larger than life.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children; Mj L'Donna of Kansas City, Missouri, Eugene Boggs, Jr. of Chillicothe, Missouri, Jacquelyn "Jackie" Benning of Coffeyville; grandchildren, Marc (Tina) Ashton of Jacksonville, Florida, Martin (Jennifer) Benning of Edmond, Oklahoma, Dustin Benning of Chanute, Kansas, Rebekah Benning of Lincoln, Nebraska; Lisa Boggs; seven great granddaughters, four great grandsons.

Rosary Vigil will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville. Father Dan Lorimer will recite the Rosary.

As fitting for her love of animals, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Coffeyville Friends of Animals; these may be left with the funeral home or mailed in c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N. Cline, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Windsor Place and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice for their love and compassion for our precious loved ones.
