Lee Eldo Hurlbutt, 88, Coffeyville, Kansas, passed away Monday, April 2, 2018 at Windsor Place Nursing Home in Coffeyville, KS.

Lee Eldo Hurlbutt was born on May 5, 1929, in Enid, OK, to Lloyd Francis and Daisy Mae (Fuller) Hurlbutt. He and Marilyn Joan (Rathbun) married in 1947. Graduating from Phillips University in 1954 with a degree in geology, Mr. Hurlbutt worked for 5 ½ years as a geologist in the oil fields all over central OK. In 1960, he accepted a position as a District Representative for APCO Oil Company in numerous OK and KS towns. He purchased K & S Oil Company in 1970 and moved his family to Coffeyville from Hutchinson.

Mr. Hurlbutt had been active in the community, serving as a member of Ducks Unlimited and as past President of Money Sunk. He also was a member of the Kansas Oil Marketers Association (which is now the Petroleum Marketers Convenience Stores Association.) He was an avid golfer, loved to read and play cards, enjoying a card group who played two days a week for decades, and always took pleasure in working with his family at K & S Oil Company. Long stays at the family cabin in the Colorado mountains were a special favorite. An enthusiastic outdoorsman --- hunter and fisherman—Mr. Hurlbutt went on several international fishing trips with his sons.

He is survived by his son Mark Hurlbutt and wife Florrie, grandchildren Matt Hurlbutt (Casey Jo) and Callie Young (Cody) and great grandchildren Charley Ann and Maddie Lue Young. He is also survived by his daughter in law Shari Hurlbutt, grandchildren Darcy Hurlbutt, Dustin Hurlbutt, Cody Hurlbutt (Tori), and great grandchildren Kyler and Cohen Hurlbutt. In addition, he is survived by his niece Marilyn Knol as well as by a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Joan, by his sons Michael Lee and Todd Alan, and by his sister Helen Bernice Allison.

Cremation has taken place under the guidance of the David Barnes Funeral Home. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorials to Coffeyville Friends of Animals. Contributions may be sent to the Funeral Home at 306 N. Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
