Charles Eugene "Gene" Bell, age 78 of Sedan, Kansas passed away Wednesday morning, June 6, 2007 in Copan, Oklahoma.
He was born September 17, 1928 in Burden, Kansas to James Albert and Irene (Majors) Bell. He attended schools in Burden and Douglas, Kansas until the ninth grade. He moved to Sedan in the 1970's. He worked at the Rodeo Packing Plant in Arkansas City, Kansas for many years and was also a farmer.
He married Julie Villegas on July 5, 1986 in Harlingen, Texas. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2004.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caney. He liked to write stories and was an animal lover, especially of dogs and horses.
He is survived by an adopted son, Paul Bell of Texas; two brothers, Jerry Bell of Wichita, Kansas and James Bell of Minot, South Dakota; two sisters, Florence Beall and Joyce Crow both of Arkansas City, Kansas; and one grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Julia and one sister.
The casket will be closed but friends may sign the register book from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, June 10, 2007 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 11, 2007 at the Cedar Vale Cemetery in Cedar Vale, Kansas with Father Jerome Spexarth of the Holy Name Catholic Church of Coffeyville officiating.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Caney and these remembrances may be left with the funeral home.
