Obituary of Wilbur H. McCord

Wilbur Henry "Jim" McCord, 83, a lifetime resident of Edna, KS passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at his home.

He was born on December 10, 1934 at Coffeyville, KS to Wilbur James and Nora Annis (Hayes) McCord. Jim grew up in the Edna area attended Edna Grade School and graduating from Edna High School.

In 1956 he married Bonnie Jean Morrow, they had three children Dale Wayne, Debra Jo and William Kent. The were later divorced.

In 1970 he married Barbara Benning. Following their marriage they continued to make their home in Edna.

Jim worked at Stine Feed Supply for many years, he served as night Marshall in Edna, was the sexton at North Edna Cemetery for several years and took care of many of the rural cemeteries around Edna, and was Custodian at Edna Grade School. For many years he operated a lawn mower and chain saw repair business.

He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #991. Jim enjoyed mowing his lawn plus many of his neighbor's lawns, and working with wood.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara of the home; one daughter, Debra Jo Mangels and husband, Vince of South Coffeyville, OK; one son, William Kent McCord and wife, Cindy of Odessa, TX; one daughter-in-law, Cathy McCord of South Coffeyville, OK; one brother, Samuel McCord and wife, Barbara of Moultrie, GA; three grandchildren, Dana Means and husband Corey of South Coffeyville, OK Rayna Mangels and Dave of Delaware, OK, and Alyssa McCord of Odessa, TX; and two great-grandchildren, Dani Kai Means and River Dal Means.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Dale Wayne McCord; one brother, William "Bill" McCord, and three sisters, Marlene Bryson, Rowena Simpson, and Betty Fahler.

A Rosary Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Holy Name Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 9, 2018, at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Daniel Lorimer officiating. Burial will follow in North Edna Cemetery.

Friends may call on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials to Holy Name Catholic Church and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
