Obituary of Cory Scott Barnes

Cory Scott Barnes, 45, of Orange, Texas passed away unexpectedly on the weekend of April 13, 2018 in Coffeyville, Kansas. He and his loving wife, Kim came to Coffeyville on Easter weekend so he could work the refinery turn-around. Cory was born on October 24, 1972 to Marilyn Jane (Whitby) Meshell and Bob J Randall Barnes in San Antonio, Texas. The family moved around a lot for his dad's job while he was growing up with his mom, Marilyn and his dad, Al Meshell. Throughout his school years he played baseball and joined the dive team. He graduated in 1991 from San Antonio Southside High School. After high school Cory went on to further his education at Palo Alto College in Texas. After college Cory married Mony Coleman of that union two sons were born, Damon and Tyler. The couple later divorced. While living in Las Vegas, Nevada he joined the Iron Workers Union #433 in 1996 where he remained until moving to Texas in 2010. In Texas he began working for Deep South Crane and Rigging and joined the Iron Workers Union #135 until the time of his passing. Cory loved his iron worker brotherhood and never hesitated to mentor the younger generations who looked up to him. Cory enjoyed playing drums with his brother Jason on guitar. While living in Vegas he loved playing in a local band known as Tore and also played with several other bands during the years he lived out there. Cory and Kim loved playing Disc golf with each other and friends. They were very close to all their Disc golf family. He also enjoyed music, cooking, and most of all spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed meeting new people. Cory never met a stranger and was loved by all that knew him. In 2010 while he was working in Ponca City, Oklahoma he met and fell in love with Kimberly Jernigan. Kim knew the moment she met him that they were each other's one true love. They had a love and passion for each other that was something most people could only hope for. They married on August 13, 2016 in Oklahoma where they joined their two families as one. Cory always challenged Kim to be the best version of herself she could be. He gave her the ability to see her own strengths which enabled her to grow as a person with him by her side. They were living in Texas at the time of his passing. He was preceded in death by his mom, Marilyn Meshell; father, Bob Barnes and by his sister, Destiany R. Meshell. Cory is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Barnes of the home; sons, Damon and Tyler Barnes of Orange, Texas; children, Kobe and Kalee Jernigan of Orange, Texas; daddy, Al Meshell of Louisiana; sisters, Tami Wallace of Orange, Texas, Wendy Raumaker of Austin, Texas, Beth Ellis or Orange, Texas; brothers, Jason Meshell of Las Vegas, Nevada and Shawn Barnes of Las Vegas, Nevada.
