Obituary of Thomas Henry Mathews

Thomas Henry Mathews, 51, of Oologah, OK passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 at Bailey Medical Center in Owasso, OK. He was born on September 29, 1966 in Wichita, KS to Raymond and Claretta Jo (Brown) Mathews. Thomas grew up in the Haskell, OK area where he attended school graduating from Haskell High School. He married Bretta Balentine and they had two children, Jody Marie and Jared Scott. They were later divorced. On November 28, 2009 he married Jan L. Harris. Following their marriage they made their home in Tulsa until moving to Oologah seven years ago. Thomas was employed as a shipping and receiving supervisor at M & M Mfg. in Tulsa for the past 2 years. Prior to that, he worked for Wejit Mfg. for 25 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and the Muskogee Creek Nation. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, camping, and playing horseshoes. His greatest joy was spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Jan of the home; his children, Jody Marie Witte and fiancé, Marcus Tyson of Tulsa, OK, Jared Scott Mathews of Tulsa, OK; step-children, Phillip Kohler and fiancé Libby Stephens of Broken Arrow, OK, and Elizabeth Marie Rodriguez and husband, David of Tulsa, OK. Grandchildren, Kaylen Amya Tyson, Jaylen Henry Tyson, Corion Tyson, Javon Tyson, Domonic Anthonyy Robert Rodriguez, Antonio Frank Ryyder Rodriguez, and Brenlee Nina Jayy Rodriguez; sisters, Vicki Jo Price and husband, Jim of Fort Gibson, OK, and Tena Rae Metcalf and husband, Richard McCormick of Mannford, OK; brother, Monty Leon Mathews of Catoosa, OK; father-in-law and mother-in-law Robert and Linda Harris of Coffeyville, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Claretta Jo Mathews. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Coffeyville Church of Christ with Joey Barrett officiating. Following Thomas's wishes, cremation has taken place and interment will be at a later date. Friends may sign the register book on Monday, April 30th from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to the Coffeyville Church of Christ or the charity of the donor's choice.
