Obituary of Joan A. Dyer

Joan A. "Jo" Dyer, 86, of Caney, KS passed away Friday, May 4, 2018, at The Journey Home in Bartlesville, OK. She was born on January 6, 1932 at Independence, KS to W.E. "Tope" and Leora (Hutton) Endicott. Jo grew up and attended school at Peru, Kansas. She graduated from Peru High School and attended Coffeyville Community College. On August 11, 1950, she married A.F. "Pete" Dyer at Bentonville, AR. Following their marriage, they lived in Peru a short time then moved to the Caney area where they made their home the last sixty-six years. Jo was always a homemaker and when her daughters were older, she started driving a school bus for Caney Valley School District U.S.D. #436, a job she enjoyed and continued for fifteen years. She was a member of the Caney United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Sigourneyan Club, and the Caney Garden Club. Jo served on numerous community and church committees and boards, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She and Pete also enjoyed years of traveling until her health began to decline. Survivors include her husband, A.F. "Pete" Dyer of the home; two daughters, Ann (Dyer) and Toby McCullough of Rossville, KS; Jane (Dyer) Hodges of Bartlesville, OK; five grandchildren, Tegan McCullough and Jera, of Colorado Springs, CO, Clint Hodges and Ashley, of Yukon, OK, Michael Hodges and Amy, of Cypress, TX, Tayler (McCullough) Ramsey and Colton, of Edwardsville, KS, and Jackson Hodges and Sally, of Manhattan, KS, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.E. and Leora Endicott; one grandson, Cole Arnold; and three brothers, Bill Endicott, Bud Endicott and Jack Endicott. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2018, at the Caney United Methodist Church with Chaplain Jsue Wagner of Comforting Hands Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Caney United Methodist Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
