John C. "J.C." Gorrell, age 68 of Peru, Kansas passed away Tuesday morning, June 5, 2007 at his residence in Peru, Kansas.
He was born January 16, 1939 in rural Peru, Kansas to Grover and Marion Frances (Longpine) Gorrell. He grew up in the Peru area graduating from Peru High School in 1956 as salutatorian of his class. He lived in the Peru area all of his life.
On September 10, 1956, he married Neva Smith in Sedan, Kansas. They made their home in rural Peru where he worked as an oilfield pumper for a number of different companies. He worked for Layton Oil Company and Sun Oil Company and worked for Equinox Oil Company. He also worked as a rancher.
He attended Jonesburg Church and he enjoyed going to rodeo's, team roping, riding horses, and was active in the Sedan 4-H Club for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Neva Gorrell of the home; two daughters, Barbara and her husband Jaime Long of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Diana and her husband Kenneth Mitchell of Grove, Oklahoma, one son, Jason Gorrell and friend Bekah of rural Peru, Kansas, three sisters, Novice Shobe of Peru, Kansas, Viva Brousseau of California, and Norma Welliver of Nashville, Tennessee, 11 Grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, John and Kenny and one daughter Martha, one brother and one sister.
Friends may call Thursday, June 7, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
Graveside services will be held Friday, June 8, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chautauqua, Kansas with Earl Tresner officiating.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Sedan 4-H Club or the Jonesburg Church, memorials may be left with the Funeral Home.
