Obituary of Shirley A. Owen

Shirley A. "Tinkie" Owen, 88, of Coffeyville passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Windsor Place. She was born on May 8, 1930 at Dewey, Oklahoma to James A. and Verby (Brentlinger) Wadkins. When she was young her family moved to the Coffeyville area where she grew up and attended school. On June 8, 1946 she married Chester Claude Owen in Independence, Kansas. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where they raised their family. Mr. Owen preceded her in death on January 23, 2008. Mrs. Owen was a member of the First Baptist Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary, former member of the Longfellow School PTA, and former Cub Scout Leader. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, crocheting, and day trips to the casino but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Survivors include two sons, Jim Owen and wife, Julie of Coffeyville, Bobby Owen and wife, Therese of Harrisonville, Missouri; two daughters, Pamela McCullough of Edna, and Lyndia Letterman and husband Travis of Hutchinson; eight grandchildren, Sarah Owen, Michael Owen, Christopher McCullough, Keith McCullough, Amanda Meier, Claude Owen Shaun Owen and Traven Letterman; and twelve great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, at the Fairview Cemetery Veterans Memorial Patio with Chaplain Keith Springer of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
