Obituary of Margaret Parker

Margaret L. Parker 94, passed away Monday, May 7, at her home in Owasso, Oklahoma. She was born on the family farm north of Coffeyville, Kansas to Bert and Eva (Richarz) Chaney. She was one of 17 children. Margaret was a graduate of Field Kindley High School. Shortly after graduation, she married William "Bill" Parker, Jr., July 26, 1942. During WWII Margaret worked in the Army Ammunitions Plant in Parsons and at McGugin Field, the Army Air Base and Training facility in Coffeyville. She went to work for the Bell Telephone Company in 1947, working initially as a telephone operator and then as a Service Representative. When Bill was promoted to the position of Postmaster at Pittsburg, Kansas in 1974, she transferred to the Pittsburg telephone office where she was employed until her retirement. Margaret and Bill retired in 1977 and moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas. She enjoyed gardening, playing golf, creating arts and crafts, and working jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Last July, Margaret and Bill celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: Charles, Albert, John, Walter, Edwin, Robert and Donald Chaney, her sisters: Pearl, Mabel, Grace, Edna, and Mary, and her husband Bill who passed away in February of this year. She is survived by four remaining siblings, Bert Chaney of Hutchinson, Kansas, George Chaney, of Ottawa, Kansas, Ethel Chaney Currier of Coffeyville, Kansas and Wanda Chaney Hunt of Collinsville, Oklahoma and her children, Richard Parker, Bert Parker (Pam) and Jane Parker Keith (Ed) of Owasso, Oklahoma, 5 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends honoring Margaret and Bill will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 19th at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
