Obituary of Charles L Harrington

Charles L. Harrington, 93 of Coffeyville passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Windsor Place. He was born on October 20, 1924 at Collinsville, Oklahoma to Walter D. and Mamie C. (Ziegler) Harrington. Charles grew up in the South Coffeyville, Oklahoma area where he attended grade school at Hoffman School and South Coffeyville Grade School and graduated from Lenapah High School in Lenapah, Oklahoma. Charles was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he attended Coffeyville Community College. He married Treva Jean Dean. Following their marriage they made their home in the South Coffeyville area where they raised their family. She preceded him in death in 1954. Charles was employed at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant at Parsons for many years until retiring in 1990. In 1972 he married Fern Griffith. Following their marriage they lived in Parsons, Kansas until 1990 when they moved to Humboldt, Kansas. She preceded him in death in 2009. After her death he returned to the Coffeyville area. He grew up attending the Pentecostal Church. Charles enjoyed fishing, camping, and working in his shop. But most of all loved being with his family. Survivors include his children, Tom Harrington and wife, Carol of Wichita, Connie Smith of Coffeyville, Dave Harrington and wife, Marsha of Corsicana, Texas, and Jimmy Harrington and wife Jeannie of Wann, Oklahoma; his step-children, David Randy Griffith of Texas, Christine Tillman of Humboldt, and Roxanne Evans of Tulsa, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mamie Harrington; his wife Teva Jean Harrington; his wife, Fern Harrington; one daughter, Diane Harrington; two grandsons, Kevin Sharp and Jimmy Don Harrington II, two sisters, Marie and Maxine; and one brother, Jerald Harrington. A Graveside Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the Fairview Cemetery Veterans Memorial Patio with Conn Davis and Jimmy Harrington officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Windsor Place Activity Fund; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
