Obituary of Deloris Gorley

Deloris (Walker) Gorley, 82, has joined her husband Glenn Gorley, her son Dell Gorley and her daughter Pam Gilliland in Heaven. She passed away in the St. Francis Via Christi Hospital, Wichita Saturday May 26th. The service honoring our Mom will be held Friday June 1st at 11:00 am in Independence at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (507 Mulberry Street, Independence). The burial will be immediately after the service at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends and family may visit Thursday May 31st from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville or prior to the service on Friday June 1st beginning at 9:00am at the church listed above. Deloris was born in Crosses, Arkansas on September 9, 1935 along with her twin Doris to Eber Franklin Walker and Nora Willie (Shackelford) Walker. Through her life, she has been a happy and helpful daughter, friend, wife, mother, grandmother and great–grandmother. Her growing up years were spent working in various venues. She was always a hard worker. She met our Dad while working as a ticket girl for a local movie theatre. Our eternal family began with her marriage to Glenn Dale Gorley on October 1953 in Wichita, and the eternal sealing on May of 1962 in the Los Angeles, CA Temple. They were together for 60 years before Dad's passing. In our mother's life, she achieved an education including her Home Health Aide Certification. Deloris had many endeavors while raising us in Venice, California. Her claim to fame is her Ownership of two of Coffeyville's local businesses during the past 40 years; Dairy Lane and Happy Things Candy and Gift Shop. During her most recent years her hard work went to the local Senior Citizens Center in Coffeyville as the Events Coordinator. Our mom was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The ministry for this church is a member ministry, therefore mom served in many capacities within the church. Positions she filled included in the Children's Primary working with the Children ages 3 and up, to serving in the Worldwide Women's Organization – The Relief Society. Her Service was never-ending and filled with love. Her devotion to living a Christ-like life, and setting an example of Christ has touched many, and has been a great influence in many lives. Our mom is survived by her children Wilma Jean Merryweather, Cedar City, Utah, David Shane Gorley, Coffeyville, Kansas and Janel Oliver, Jacksonville, Florida and her siblings, Alice Hershberger, Doris Rieff (mom's twin), Dorothy Brown and her brother Jack Walker. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
