Obituary of Naomi D. "Diane" Jones

Naomi D. "Diane" Jones was called home by her heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville, Kansas. She was 93. Diane was born January 13, 1925 to Joseph Dean and Emma (Barlow) Mercer in Arkansas City, Kansas. She attended Liberty Schools and graduated from Liberty High School in 1943 after the family relocated. On September 15, 1945 she married Earnest "Jack" Jones in Coffeyville. They had two daughters, Karen and Linda. Jack and Diane later divorced. She worked at Coffeyville Continental Can Company and in Dr. Ellis' office until she opened Lakeview Kennel and Dog Grooming in 1960. She retired in 1990 but never gave up her love of dogs. In the late 1950's Diane was a member of Coffeyville Little Theatre. Later in life she sang at Clymore and Dearing schools for weekend dances. Diane loved performing. She was a breast cancer survivor and was a member of the Bible Baptist Church. She moved to Windsor Place in June of 2004. She was very involved in the Age to Age program and was an adopted grandma to many children. Diane loved spending time with her pets and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Emma Mercer. Survivors include a sister, Beverly Zimmerman of Independence; two daughters, Karen (Harry) Thomas and Linda Patton both of Coffeyville; grandchildren, Wendy Newberry of Coffeyville, Angela Keath of Coffeyville, Chad Patton of Scottsdale, Arizona, Heather Patton of Anthem Arizona, and Kristi (Paul) Baker of Coffeyville; nine great grandkids and four great great grandkids. A Memorial Service celebrating Diane's life will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the Coffeyville First Church of the Nazarene, 2300 West 1st St., with Pastor Ford Hall officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Coffeyville Friends of Animals; contributions can be left with or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
