Obituary of R. Barry Robertson
Richard Barry Robertson passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at his home with his loving family around him.
Barry was born in Henryetta, Oklahoma on October 3, 1935, to parents Dorothy (Marshall) and Burley D. Robertson.
After graduating from Henryetta High School in June, 1953, Barry came to Coffeyville that summer to play Ban Johnson baseball.
He stayed in Coffeyville and attended Coffeyville Junior College, graduating in 1955. During his junior college years, he met, wooed and wed the love of his life, Patricia Diane Easton. They were married on May 5, 1955. Barry never missed remembering an anniversary. It was easy to remember 5-5-55.
He then went to Kansas University on a baseball scholarship. After 3 years of baseball at KU (and one summer of semi-pro baseball at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in the Western Canadian League), he graduated from KU in June, 1958 with a business degree. Barry and Pat and 2-month-old son, Brian Lynn, returned to Coffeyville. Their second son, David Dee, was born in July 1959, in Coffeyville.
Returning to Coffeyville he began a 30-year career at the Condon National Bank. He also worked in the early years of computers with Page Milk Computer Company and in business with Carl Pevehouse and later with Rex Barrett at Computer Associates. During this time, he remained on the Board of Directors at Condon National Bank.
In 1984 Barry returned to Condon to set up their in-house computer system. He retired from the bank in December, 1992. After retiring from the bank, Barry worked several part-time years at Coffeyville Recon Computer Division.
Pat and Barry spent the next 15 years traveling between Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Havana Lake in Kansas. They returned to Coffeyville in October, 2015.
Barry was very active in the Coffeyville community. He served on many boards, including Condon National Bank Board, Coffeyville Regional Hospital Board, City Recreation Board, Coffeyville Country Club Board, Salvation Army Board, Coffeyville Jaycees, and Chamber of Commerce. He served as treasurer of USD 445, coached Little League Baseball and Pony Colt. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and a vestry member.
He enjoyed keeping up with KU and Kansas City baseball. He loved playing golf and bass fishing with his dad. He also loved traveling and golf outings with the guys. Richard Barry Robertson passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at his home with his loving family around him.
